LASIK
Individuals wearing glasses to see clearly can have their glasses removed and have perfect vision without glasses. Different treatment options are available depending on the power of the glass (refractive error) and the age of the patient. If a person is above 18 years of age and is wearing glasses or contact lenses, he/she can choose to have freedom from glasses/ contact lenses. This treatment is not done before 18 years of age as the glass power usually stabilizes around the age of 16 years. The most common and popular treatment is laser vision correction. In this treatment, the corneal curvature is changed to correct the patient’s refractive error (power of the glass)
LASIK (Laser-Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis) corrects refractive errors by reshaping the cornea with the help of an Excimer laser with submicron accuracy with a very high success rate and good patient satisfaction.
about lasik
Are over 18 years of age
Have had stable vision for at
least one year
Have generally healthy eyes
LASIK combines two techniques of surgery to correct refractive error. First a surgical blade called a microkeratome creates a thin flap in the cornea. Next, an excimer laser sculpts the underlying cornea into a new shape to correct the refractive error. The flap is then repositioned and adheres on its own without sutures after only a few minutes.
INTRALASE or FEMTO-LASIK is a further advanced procedure that eliminates the need for the use of a blade to raise the flap. The advantage of intralase is that the flap raised with a femtosecond laser has an accuracy of +/-2 microns. The precision cutting offemtolaser allows uniform thickness, and thinner flaps allowing more tissue conservation than the one made by a surgical blade.
CUSTOMIZED LASIK not only removes the power in your eye but also corrects other aberrations (distortion of images) in your eye that prevent an individual from achieving a better quality of vision. These aberrations are quantified by an aberrometer, which, when fed into a machine, will allow a personalized sculpturing pattern by which the laser will mould the cornea to give the best visual results.
Recovery following LASIK is usually comfortable and rapid with a good postoperative result. All routine activities can be resumed after a day after the procedure.
